Robert "Mike"
Coffey
December 13, 1941 – April 23, 2026
Robert Michael "Mike" Coffey, age 84, of Kansas City, Missouri passed away on April 23, 2026.
Mike was born on December 13, 1941 in Brandon, Missouri, the only child of Finis and Viola Coffey. He was a 1959 graduate of Windsor High School. He went on to earn a Bachelor’s degree in Business and Agricultural Studies at the University of Central Missouri. After graduation, Mike was drafted into military service with the United States Army and served for 16 months in South Korea.
Upon returning home, Mike met and quickly married the love of his life, Mary Ann Riddle. The two were united in marriage on August 19, 1967, in Warrensburg, Missouri. Together, they moved to Kansas City and raised two daughters, Sheri and Shannon, and created a legacy of unwavering love, faithfulness, commitment, and devotion that spanned nearly 59 years.
Faith played a central role in Mike’s life and he was a God-fearing man. A devoted member of Linden Baptist Church for more than 55 years, he loved to spend time in scripture, study God’s word, and lead children’s worship in the nursery. He was also the Sunday School Director for many years.
Mike lived with a servant’s heart, showing his love in the quiet, everyday ways that meant the most. Each morning began with making coffee for Mary Ann and feeding the birds, simple acts that reflected the deep care and devotion he had for his wife and the kindness he carried into each day. He was humble, patient, generous, and freely lent a listening ear to anyone who needed one. Mike always chose to see the best in people. He was never materialistic and placed far more value on faith and family than on money or possessions.
When Mike was not trapping and relocating squirrels from the backyard with his beloved Boston Terrier, Foxy, he could often be found sitting in his favorite chair in the sunroom with a good book, reading the Bible with Mary Ann, singing and playing his guitar, or riding his lawnmower as he proudly cared for not only his own yard, but all four lawns in the cul-de-sac. He loved fishing, losing at cards no matter who he played with, and enjoying Mary Ann’s famous peanut butter cookies - his favorite - which she lovingly kept in constant supply.
Professionally, Mike dedicated 36 years to Farmland Industries, where he demonstrated exemplary leadership as President of the Credit Union. After his retirement from Farmland, he continued to serve his community by driving a school bus for the Park Hill School District for eight years.
Mike is preceded by his parents, Finis and Viola Coffey, and grandchildren, Julia Ann Eskijian, and Luke Edwin Shiddell.
He is survived by his loving wife Mary Ann Coffey; daughters, Sheri Ann (John) Shiddell, and Shannon Dee (Brian) Eskijian; grandchildren, Kristina (Jordan), Tyler (Katlynn), Jordyn, Lexi, Adalena (Justin), and Jake; and 6 great grandchildren, Lucy, Tessa, Herbie, Winnie, Cal, Hank.
Visitation will be held on April 27, 2026, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Linden Baptist Church, located at 611 NE 69th St, Kansas City, MO 64118.
The funeral service will take place at the same location on April 28, 2026, from 10:00 AM to 10:45 AM, followed by interment at Terrace Park Funeral Home & Cemetery, 801 NW 108th St, Kansas City, MO 64155, starting at 11:15 AM.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to Linden Baptist Church, located at 611 NE 69th St, Kansas City, MO 64118.
Mike leaves behind a legacy of being ‘the rock’ of his family; defined by steadfast faithfulness, love, humility, patience, and service. His memory will be treasured by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
