Robert (“Bob”) Kessel, of Independence, Missouri, , passed away on November 22, 2025, age 87.
He was born in Ava, Illinois, to Theodore and Bernice Kessel., and is survived by his sister, Naomi McKean,. Bob served his country in the U.S. Army, 1957-1970, as a paratrooper in the 101st Airborne Division.
His life call and profession was in education, especially in high school. During his career, he was a teacher and Principal at Raytown High School, served on the Raytown School District staff, and for a time with the Missouri Department of Elementary & Secondary Education. He loved high school students and was always excited to help them. As the Executive Director of the Raytown Educational Foundation, he established the Raytown Community Pride Scholarship which continues to help high school students. After their retirement, He and his late wife, LaDona Lea Kessel, were active volunteers and supporters of the Foundation. In Bob’s words, I was privileged to be with the foundation from its concept through development. The tremendous potential for good swept me up as the foundation started contributing to the teachers and students in the district.
Bob’s other passion was for the Kansas City Chiefs.
In Lieu of flowers, Bob’s sister requests memorials be made in his honor and memory to Raytown Educational Foundation, 10750 E. 350 Highway, Raytown, MO 64138.
