Roy McBee

September 16, 1934 — September 18, 2021

Roy D. McBee, 87, passed away on September 18, 2021.

Roy was born in Newton County near the small town of Stella, MO on September 16, 1934 to Sam and Margaret (Smith) McBee. He, along with his two older siblings, grew up on their family’s dairy farm. Roy moved to the Kansas City area in his early 20s where he met the love of his life, Mary Cowan. They were married on April 8, 1961 and celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary this year.  Roy held various positions during his 40 year career at Montgomery Wards and was a proud Teamster.

Roy never met a stranger and was well loved by family and friends.  He could build and/or fix just about anything and was always `ready to lend a hand to anyone that needed it. He was frequently regarded as the neighborhood handy man, because he was generous with his time and knowledge.  He was also an avid gardener and planted a farm-worthy garden each year.

Roy is preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Sammy Maples and Jay McBee.

He will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by his wife Mary; children, Terri (husband, Patrick) Merrigan, Randy (wife, Julie) McBee and Jeff (wife, Ruth) McBee; six grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at Terrace Park Cemetery - Lakeside Chapel on Friday, September 24th at 3:00pm. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
