Sally Hatfield

July 10, 1944 — October 1, 2020

Sally Nadean Hatfield (nee Scott) passed peacefully the evening of 1 October, 2020, at the age of 76. She was born 10 July, 1944, to Nellie and Albert Scott, and she graduated from Bonner Springs High School in 1962. She married Mark Hatfield in the summer of 1972, and they raised two daughters together, Michelle and Leigh. Through the years Sally and Mark moved many times, once as far as Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, before returning to the Kansas City area to land in Platte City, Missouri. Flower gardening, mystery novels, and country music gave her joy wherever she lived. Though mostly finding fulfillment as a stay at home mother, she filled some time in the library at her children’s elementary school and in the drapery department of JCPenney. She battled Stage 4 breast cancer for seven years with help from the University of Kansas Cancer Center. Sally was preceded in death by her parents and her brother James. She is survived by her husband, two daughters, and sister Elaine, as well as many cousins and nieces and nephews. A small service for family will be held at Terrace Park, with a larger memorial service on the one year anniversary of her passing. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation (www.bcrf.org).
