Samuel “Sam” Edward Dunn passed away on Saturday, October 2, 2021 at his home in Kansas City, Missouri after a brief battle with Metastatic Prostate Cancer. He was born to the late Herman Lee “Pete” Dunn and Marcine Ann Rowsey on February 1, 1960 in Joplin, MO. He met Carmen Renee Williams and then married her on May 20, 2000 in her hometown of Lathrop, MO.
Sam Dunn graduated from DeVry Technical School in Kansas City, MO. He took his skills to work at MRC Data, previously The Nielsen Co, previously Broadcast Data Systems for the past 30 years. He was a hard worker and provided for his family.
Sam was battling his second cancer as he had Non Hodgkin's Lymphoma in 2014. His large family rallied behind him with prayer, garage sales, and a Silent Auction Benefit to help raise funds. They were very generous with their time, money, food and anything to do to help. Sam won this earlier battle to return home with his wife and most importantly his young children at the time. Praise the Lord!
Sam will always be remembered as a family man who took time to bond with his wife, children, and those who loved him. He loved the great outdoors with his son, dad, brother, brothers in law, and nephews. He often spent time at Boy Scout camps with his son, Luke, and worked on many projects with his daughter, Sarah. He enjoyed fishing, hunting turkey and deer, and camping. Some of his best memories are of camping with a handful of family members near Stockton Lake. And he loved telling fishing and hunting stories. Sam was a true American who wasn’t afraid to get his hands dirty. He will be truly missed by his wife and children, family and friends.
He is preceded in death by both his parents, and one nephew: Timothy Kesinger.
Survivors include his loving wife of 21 years Carmen; one son: Luke William Dunn; one daughter: Sarah Samantha Dunn; one brother: David (Linda) Dunn; and five sisters: Virginia (Gene) Kesinger, Debra Wheeler, Sandra Chew, Janis (Walter) Pope, and Tammy (Mike) McGuirk, all from the Joplin, MO area.
There will be a visitation at Terrace Park Funeral Home and Cemetery located at 801 N.W. 108th Street (Shoal Creek Prkwy) Kansas City, MO. 64155 on October 11, 2021 from 1:00-2:30 PM with a Celebration of Life to follow at 2:30 PM.
