Shirley Jane White passed away peacefully in her sleep on Sunday February 6, 2022, after a multi-year battle against Alzheimer’s. Born on October 18, 1950 in Kansas City, Missouri, to Ralph Waldo Evans and Bonnie Naomi Evans, she was 71 years old when she went home to Jesus. She is survived by her husband of over fifty years, Jerry Don White, and a multitude of in-laws, nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews who loved her dearly.
Throughout her life, Shirley was active in church ministry. She worked in children’s ministry and women’s ministry through South Platte Baptist Church, Avondale Baptist Church, Harmony Heights Baptist Church, and New Covenant Baptist Church. Shirley lived a life of service in her work as well, first as a nursing aide at North Kansas City Hospital as well as various other hospitals throughout the Kansas City region, and later as a unit secretary for Liberty Hospital.
Shirley was also a skilled crafter. She crocheted, quilted, embroidered, and scrapbooked - often with and for those she loved. She spent a lot of her time crafting with her older sister, Linda Gleason, and always looked forward to their “quilt shop hops”. Many of the Christmas ornaments and other projects she made are still cherished by her family today and will be for years to come.
Shirley will always be remembered for her infectious laugh, her generous spirit, her deep love for family, and her sincere faith in Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior.
The family of Shirley White gives their heartfelt thanks to the caring staff of The Groves, Terrace Park Funeral Home, and members of Gashland Baptist Church.
Services will be held at Terrace Park Funeral Home & Cemetery on Monday, February 14th, with visitation from 1:00pm to 2:00pm, immediately followed by the funeral service and burial. Memorial donations in her name can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association in lieu of flowers.
