Tammy Mesias

Tammy Marie Mesias passed away on April 10, 2026, at the age of 53.

Tammy was born on February 8, 1973, in Kansas City, Missouri, to Harold Edward Downing and Mary “Kay” Martin. She was the youngest of their five children.

Tammy attended high school in Tonganoxie, Kansas. She later worked in a nursing home, Life Care, where she spent time in both the kitchen and laundry departments, working alongside her future husband’s family. Tammy met the love of her life, Robert “Bob” Mesias II, at a Special Olympics event. After five years of dating, the two were united in marriage on October 3, 1998. Together they proudly raised three children.

She was an active member of Living Word Community Church. Tammy dedicated much of her time to serving others. She was especially known for organizing and helping with church garage sales and various events, always eager to lend a hand. Tammy also had a deep connection to the Special Olympics, where she participated in bowling, basketball, softball, and track and field.

Tammy was also a member of the Civitan Orchids group for disabled women, where she served as both past president and treasurer. She was deeply committed to the group and valued the friendships she built there.

Tammy had a vibrant spirit and a love for life’s simple joys. She adored bright colors, dressing up, and celebrating Christmas, always thinking of ways to bring happiness to others. She enjoyed creating diamond art, vacationing in Branson, and spending time with her beloved pets—her dogs, Shadow, Trixie, and Zorro, and her cat, Patches.

She faced her battle with ovarian cancer with courage and resilience, inspiring those around her with her strength and positivity.

Tammy is survived by her devoted husband, Robert “Bob” Mesias II; children, Freddy, Dominick (Megan), and Austin; and her cherished grandson, Dawson. She is also survived by her siblings, Jr. Downing, Denise Shatto, and Melissa Brim; her brothers-in-law, Carl Mesias and Kyle Mesias; sister-in-law, Jo Mesias; and many extended family members and dear friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Tonya Downing.

A visitation will be held on Friday, April 17, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., with funeral services following at 12:00 p.m., all at Terrace Park Funeral Home and Cemetery. Burial will immediately follow.

In honor of Tammy’s vibrant personality and love for color, the family kindly requests that attendees wear their favorite bright colors. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Living Word Community Church.
