Thelma Juanita Pike

Thelma Juanita Pike, passed away on January 22, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of independence, dedication, and love for her family.  Born on November 2, 1939, to the late Calvin and Thelma Thurmond.  Known as Nita to her family, Thelma will forever be celebrated.

She dedicated over 30 years to The Medical University of South Carolina before retiring. After relocating to Harrison, Ark., to be closer to her sister Clara, she generously volunteered several days a week at Ozark's Care & Share, people helping people.

Nita, known for her independence and professional drive, was just as devoted to her family. Her loved ones held a central place in her life, and she treasured every moment spent with them. Nita’s steadfast presence brought joy and strength to those fortunate to be around her.

Nita’s well-known passion for shopping was a delight for friends and family. She often treated herself to a delicious frappe, finding joy in these small indulgences. Additionally, her strong faith was evident in her role as a member at the First Christian Church of Harrison, Arkansas. Nita served her community with grace and devotion, relying on her unwavering faith in God for strength during challenges and guiding her towards acts of generosity.

Nita’s love for travel took her across the globe, from Taiwan to Germany, on countless adventures. Having lived in Germany during her father’s military service, she developed a profound appreciation for diversity and a lasting curiosity about the world. Nita’s travel experiences enriched her soul, leaving an indelible mark on the person she became.


She will be remembered as a woman of unwavering determination, remarkable strength, and boundless love.  Her memory will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to know her.  Although she may have passed from this world, her spirit lives on in the hearts of all who were touched by her grace and southern charm.

Nita was preceded in death by her parents, her baby sister: Clara Sims and her beloved dog: Fufi.


She leaves behind her loving family including: her daughter: Susan (Shane) Wade; grandchildren: Savana (Matt) Barfield, Carson Wade and Caroline Wade; great grandson: Weston Barfield; brother: Eddie (Debbie) Thurmond; brother-in-law: Dave Sims.
