William "Bill" P. Affolter, Jr.

April 26, 1951 — May 11, 2025

William “Bill” Pryor Affolter, Jr., beloved son, brother, father, and grandfather passed away peacefully surrounded by family on May 11, 2025 at the age of 74.

Born on April 26, 1951, Bill was a man of warmth, humor, and quiet strength. His life was centered around the love he had for his family, and those who knew him were touched by his generous spirit and kind heart.

Bill was the oldest of five children and took on a natural role of protector, guide, and teacher with them. He was always watching out for his siblings, offering wisdom, support, and guidance in every situation. His influence as the eldest sibling created a lasting bond between them, one built on love and respect.

A graduate of William Jewell College, where he earned his bachelor’s degree, Bill’s thirst for knowledge led him to continue his education at Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, where he earned his Master of Divinity. His educational journey reflected his lifelong commitment to both personal growth and service to others.

Bill’s career journey began in Jefferson City, Missouri, where he worked for the Missouri Baptist Convention during his children’s formative years. It was there that he laid the foundation for his professional life while also raising a family, instilling in his children the values of hard work, faith, and perseverance. He loved to teach and help his children, Amy and David, in any way he could, whether it was offering practical advice, supporting their education, or guiding them through life's challenges. He found great joy in seeing them grow and succeed. When his children graduated high school and went on to follow in his footsteps at William Jewell College, Bill made a bold career change, relocating to Kansas City, Missouri, and transitioning to a career as a financial adviser at Edward Jones, where he would retire as a financial auditor after many years of dedicated service.

Though Bill’s professional life was marked by diligence and integrity, it was his love for hands-on learning and tinkering that truly defined him. He was always ready to lend a hand, tool box in tow, to help others with whatever project they had in mind. Whether it was woodworking, 3-D printing, or simply taking something apart to understand how it worked, Bill’s curiosity and craftsmanship were unmatched. He found joy in the process of creating, fixing, and exploring new things, and his passion for learning never waned.

But more important than any of his hobbies or accomplishments, Bill’s greatest joy came from spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He was fully present in every moment spent with them. Whether he was making them laugh with jokes, sharing stories, or simply enjoying the time together, Bill’s time with them was wholehearted and filled with love. His grandchildren were the center of his world, and the memories they made together will remain in their hearts forever.

In his later years, Bill shared a loving bond with his partner Rhonda Hudson, whose companionship brought him happiness. Rhonda’s family also became a part of his life, and their shared time together added to his life.

Bill’s love for his family was boundless, and his presence will be greatly missed by all who loved him. While we mourn his passing, we find comfort in knowing that his spirit of love, laughter, and warmth will continue to guide us.

Bill was preceded in death by his mother Fern (Manwarring) Affolter.

He is survived by his father: William Pryor Affolter, Sr.; children: Amy (Brooks) Brown, David (Maggie) Affolter; grandchildren: Jessica Brown, Kallie Brown, Leah Brown, Mariah (Cole) Spady, Bradley Brown, Breck Brown, Brandon Brown, Dade Affolter, Maxine Affolter, Dalton Affolter; partner Rhonda Hudson along with many nieces, nephews, family and friends.
