Obituary

WILLIAM R. JOBSON, III (1943-2026)

William “Bill” Jobson, 83, passed away peacefully in May 2026, in Kansas City, Missouri, after a long journey marked by resilience, faith, humor, and devotion to the people he loved.

Born on March 18, 1943, in Rutherford, New Jersey, Bill was the eldest child of Janet (Booth) and William Jobson, R. Jobson, Jr. A gifted athlete and strong student, he excelled in soccer and was known as both a leader and protector growing up, especially among his siblings — brother Larry and sister Diane — and his friends.

Bill graduated from Dickinson College, where he participated in NROTC and played goalie for the college soccer team. Following graduation, he fulfilled his US Navy commitment as an Ensign in Washington, D.C. He later earned his MBA from Fairleigh Dickinson University and began a long business career that included work with Shell Oil Company in New York City before later becoming a certified financial planner.

Bill and his second wife, Barbara “Bobbi” Jobson, made their home in Glen Carbon, Illinois, where they built a life together for more than 20 years. During Bobbi’s long struggle with Alzheimer’s disease, Bill cared for her with unwavering loyalty and compassion — a reflection of the steady commitment and traditional values that defined his life.

A longtime Christian and active in the church, Bill also enjoyed watching sports, playing golf, reading thrillers, and engaging in good conversation. While reserved at first impression, those who knew him well appreciated his warmth, quick wit, and unexpectedly playful sense of humor. In his later years especially, he became known for his friendliness, storytelling, and enjoyment of life’s simple pleasures.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Bobbi; and a stepson. He is survived by extended family members and dear friends whose lives were enriched by his kindness and steady presence.

Private arrangements are planned, with interment intended at Sunset Hill Cemetery in Glen Carbon, Illinois. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America in honor of Bobbi and of those who, like Bill, refused to abandon loved ones to Alzheimer’s disease.
