Douglas Whitacre

Douglas Edwin Whitacre, 62, of Smithville, MO passed away on August 15, 2020. Doug was born on January 18, 1958 in St. Joseph, MO to Wilbur and Lena (Pyrtle) Whitacre. He graduated from St. Joe High School and continued to further his education at Missouri Western State University. Doug moved to the Kansas City area where he met and married the love of his life, Marilyn Gabriel, and from this marriage they had two children. Doug was a natural salesman and had a successful career in the medical sales industry, working for various companies, as a regional manager. He was a proud member of Grace Community Church and volunteer for their Worship Team. Doug was also an Eagle Scout, which inspired his love of being outdoors in the country. He especially loved bird watching, as well as golfing and hunting, but his favorite pastime was always spending time with his family. Doug will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by his wife of 34 year, Marilyn; his daughters, Courtney Whitacre (Ricky) and Hillary (Blake) Owens; parents, Wilbur and Lena Whitacre; brothers; Bill (Joan), Craig (Barb), and Travis (Susan) Whitacre; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Services will be held at Terrace Park Funeral Home & Cemetery, with visitation on Wednesday, August 19th from 5:00PM to 7:00PM, a Celebration of Life at 10:00AM on Thursday, August 20th, followed by an interment. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the is House of Hope Haiti (917 R Lane Oberlin, KS 67749), or, Sewing Labs (526 Campbell Street, Kansas City, MO 64106).
