Floyd Murphy

August 20, 1934 — October 30, 2019

Floyd Wren Murphy, 85, of Kansas City, Missouri passed away on October 30, 2019.

Floyd was born on August 20, 1934 in Edgerton, Missouri to Melvin and Alice (Lappine) Murphy and raised on the family farm in rural Missouri. Floyd learned early-on the importance of being a hard worker. His father taught him to weld and could fix just about any machine or automobile in need of repair. He graduated from North Kansas City high school with a great love of music and mechanics, it was there he met the love of his life, Alma “Diane” Lewis. Floyd and Diane were married on November 22, 1957.  Floyd enlisted in the United States Airforce where he served for six years. Much of his time in the Airforce was spent in England, he returned to the United States, and completed his honorable service in 1962 as a Maintenance Sargent .  Floyd began his career at Singer Corporation, where he managed retails stores in Missouri and Nebraska, and later worked in their sewing machine repair and service departments.  When he wasn’t working hard, he knew how to play hard.  Floyd enjoyed playing golf, watching and attending football games for the Nebraska Cornhuskers, and Kansas City Chiefs, hunting, golfing, and fishing. He was also proudly known for his lead foot, always pushing the speed limitations on his bass boat, and cars.  He spent time working on race car teams and belonged to Bass Fishing clubs.  In retirement, Floyd continued to repair machines on a private scale, building golf cubs, and he was extremely proud of the accomplishments of his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Floyd is preceded in death by his parents, Melvin & Alice Murphy; brother, Charles Murphy; nephew, Shawn Murphy, and niece, Lisa Marie Murphy.

He will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by his wife of nearly 62 years, Diane; and their children: Richard & Maria Murphy, Christina Murphy Jewell & Stephen Jewell, Sheri Murphy Brown & Kent Brown, and  Scott & Tammy Murphy in addition to their 12 grandchildren: Peggy, Julia, Eric, Patricia, TJ, Mary, Michael, Chase, Shawn, Kyle, Tyler, &  Katelynn; 8 great grandchildren: Zachary, Alex, Mackenzie, Lilly, Jackson, Conor, Dominc & Lanney; brothers, Kenneth Murphy and Guidene Murphy; and his late brother Charles' family.
