H. Maxine Lawhorn

February 12, 1948 — November 16, 2022

Maxine Lawhorn passed away on November 16th, 2022, in Kansas City, Missouri of natural causes. Maxine was born February 12th, 1948, in Liberty, Missouri the daughter of the late Ralph Odor Sr (1971) and Mary Bell Odor (Carey) (1980). On July 20, 1968, she married the love of her life/her soulmate Tommy Loyd Lawhorn who preceded her in death in 2012. They were happily married for 43 years. They lived in Kearney, Missouri on the family farm for most of their marriage. They loved to garden together and spent all their time together.

Maxine went to work for the North Kansas City School District in 1978 where she worked as a Facilty Manager at Clardy Elementary School until she retired in 2010. Maxine won many awards through the years for her hard work at the district. She always said it was important for every student to return to school with a clean desk & chair. She wanted to make sure every student had a safe clean space to learn. She made many friends through her years at the district and thought a lot of them. She was always quick with a laugh or a smile. Mr. Duncan said it best "there were none better than Maxine."

Maxine spent most of her free time with her family. Some of the things she loved most were having coffee with her brother Ralph, spending time with her best friend/sister Linda crafting, sewing, and shopping, or friendly banter with her brother-in-law Ray. She enjoyed spending time with her nieces and nephews. She was the epitome of love. She was always there for everyone and quick to lend a hand or an ear to all of us. Maxine was an avid quilter, crocheter, cook, and artist. She was so talented and a bit of a perfectionist.

She was preceded in death by her husband Tommy Loyd Lawhorn (2012) Father Ralph Odor (1971) Mother Mary Bell Odor (1980) her sister Joe Ann Odor (2014) Edith Darlene "Pinky" O'dor (2002) Mary Louise Odor (1944) many Aunts & Uncles, nieces & nephews

She is survived by her sister Bonnie Jean Odor of Kansas City, Missouri, her brother Ralph O'Dor & wife Vera of Liberty, Missouri, sister Jackie O'Dell of Holt, Missouri, baby sister Linda Wilson (Odor) & husband Ray of Liberty, Missouri, her God Daughter/Weekend Daughter Wendy Waggoner of Kansas City, Missouri and sister-in-law Sharon Lawhorn of Smithville, Missouri as well as many nieces, nephews, great nieces & nephews.

Maxine was truly one of a kind, pure love, and we were so blessed to be loved by her. Please know that as we are sad and grieving Maxine is happy, healthy, and free with our Lord and savior Jesus Christ and her one true love Tommy Loyd Lawhorn. Rest in peace our beautiful angel.
