Janice Stratman

July 9, 1936 — January 29, 2021

Janice Claire (Day) Stratman, 84, of Kansas City, MO earned her angel wings on January 29th, 2021 after battling Covid. She was born July 9, 1936, in Gillette, WY to the late Charlie and Bernice (Frey) Day.

Jan graduated from St. Catherine’s School of Nursing in Omaha, NE where she met the love of her life, her late husband Art while he was attending Creighton Medical School. It was love at first sight.

She was the loving wife of 60 years to Art; dear mother of Chuck, (the late Joy) Stratman, Dan (Cyndi) Stratman, Phil (Kathy) Stratman, Paul (Jana) Stratman, Tom Stratman, Mary (the late Mark) Truvillion, and daughter-in-law Mary Helen Stratman, cherished Grandma of 17 and G-Gma of 21; a beloved sister, aunt, and friend to many.

Jan found her greatest joys in raising her large family. She also loved her work as a nurse at St. Joseph's Hospital in Omaha & Liberty Hospital, in the Northland. She was a parishioner at St. Therese Catholic Church.

Her most important legacy is her devotion to faith and family. She was the heart of our family. who taught us kindness, faith, the value of hard work, and the importance of family and love. Jan provided a shoulder to cry on and a listening ear without judgment. She was a generous and compassionate Soul who offered her wise, gentle counsel and unconditional love to everyone.

Jan was an intelligent woman of many talents, who could answer every question on Jeopardy and every puzzle on Wheel of Fortune. She enjoyed playing games with her family and was also very artistic and creative, always coming up with cute poems. The decades of ancestral research she conducted gave our family amazing information reaching back 18 generations in Europe. Her love of travel took her to all seven continents, the 50 states, and too many countries to count.

Jan was charitable to those less fortunate and a very happy, joyful soul. Our prayer is the joy and kindness with which she filled the world around her continues to be shared by all those who carry her in their hearts. Our Wyoming Cowgirl and Irish Lassie with a beautiful smile and laugh will be missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Visitation will be Saturday, Feb 13th, 9:30 – 11 AM at St. Therese Catholic Church followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at the church located at 7207 MO-9, Kansas City, MO 64152. Link for Live stream of the funeral: https://vimeo.com/event/669893
