Robert Joseph Payton, 73, of Kansas City, MO passed away on December 22, 2020.
Robert was born on August 28, 1947 in Des Moines, Iowa to Harold and Ethel Payton. Shortly after high school he enlisted in the United States Navy, where he served for four years as radarman in the Vietnam War. While he was stationed in San Francisco, CA he met the love of his life, Elleen Huffman. They were married in July of 1968 and from this marriage had four children. Robert was a graduate of Indian Hills Community College. He worked as an air traffic controller for 11 years, before beginning his long career working for Reynolds Aluminum (formerly, Ball), retiring from there after 18 years. Robert enjoyed watching classic movies and football, especially the Kansas Chiefs. Robert is preceded in death by his parents. He will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by his wife of 52 years, Elleen Payton; three sons, Mark (Lisa), Matthew, and Jason (Diana) Payton; daughter, LeeAnna (Shawn) Everitt; nine grandchildren; six great grandchildren; brother, Patrick (Della) Payton; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Services will be held at Terrace Park Funeral Home and Cemetery, with visitation on Monday, December 28th from 5:00pm to 7:00pm and a Mass of Christian burial held on Tuesday, December 29th at 10am, followed by graveside service.
