Roger Schlotzhauer

July 19, 1948 — March 18, 2020

Roger Lynn Schlotzhauer was born on July 19, 1948 to Arthur W. and Pearl A. Schlotzhauer in Massena, Iowa.  He passed away on March 18, 2020 at his home in Lee’s Summit at the age of 71.  Services will be private.  Memorial contributions are suggested to the American Cancer Society.

On June 26, 1993 Roger was united in marriage to Carol Anne Kemmerer in Independence, Missouri.  They made their home in Lee’s Summit.

Roger worked part time for the Kansas City Royals from 1972 to 1983.  He was Supervisor of Gate 1, and Director of Parking Lot and Tollgate personnel for home games.  He was active in IGSA Softball and IYAA Volleyball, where he coached, umpired, and designed the IYAA Award medal.

Roger received his BS in Industrial Arts from Northwest Missouri State College in 1971, and his Master’s Degree in Industrial Education from Central Missouri State University in 1976. He continued taking classes and was certified in Middle School Math.  Roger was a teacher for 29 years in Independence, teaching General Shop, Mathematics and Industrial Processes.  He was active in Industrial Arts Association of Missouri and editor of their newsletter in the early 80’s.  Roger retired in 2000, after which he volunteered in the reading program at Santa Fe Elementary School in Independence from 2001 to 2016.

Roger attended Aldersgate United Methodist Church in Lee’s Summit, Missouri.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, parents, and a brother, Arthur William.

Roger is survived by his wife, Carol; brothers, Donald Schlotzhauer and wife Sandra, of Atlantic, Iowa, and Lowell Schlotzhauer and wife Bonnie of Austin, Minnesota; many cousins, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
