Thomas Hampton

August 9, 1949 — September 28, 2021

Kansas City

Thomas “Tom” Virgil Hampton, 72, passed away on September 28, 2021, surrounded by his loving wife and family, in Kansas City, Missouri. He was born to the late Woodie Edward Hampton and the late Grace Margaret Kenster. He married Cathy and spent over 50 years in her loving arms. To Cathy, these years went by very quickly. They had known each other starting at the age of 17.

Tom began working for the Ford Motor Company as an adult and worked for them for 31 years. When he joined Metro Baptist, he and his wife were very active in the church. You could find him coaching softball games for their team. He was also a Deacon and provided teachings to the Sunday school classroom. He and his family enjoyed many family vacations to places such as Florida, and Colorado. Tom was an avid fan of the Kansas City Chiefs and the Kansas City Royals. He often loved to go to their games with his family. He loved to watch Western and war movies in his free time.

Although Tom was diagnosed with MS, he stayed as active as he could. He enjoyed playing pool and competing in tournaments with friends at the Brass Rail.

Tom will always be remembered as a great husband and best friend to Cathy. He will always be remembered for his love of his family.

His daughter Mary has shared many traits that Tom will always be remembered for. His sportsmanship was great. He always taught her how to win and lose and be a team player. He had amazing work ethic which has served her well in her career. He taught her how to get back up when you fall, how to sacrifice for those you love, and how to love her country as he defended it in a time of war. He taught her values of faith, family, friendship, respect, integrity, and honesty. He also taught her how to be a genuine person and fight for what she believed in.

These are things that Mary will carry on in his memory. Most importantly, her dad and mom taught her how to love the Lord and live out his word in her everyday life. They taught her what it means to be saved and loved unconditionally. They taught her how to turn to the Lord for her salvation, for that is the most important choice one will ever make. This is her father’s ultimate wish for you too. She thanks the Lord for lending her dad to be her earthly representative of Father God.

Tom is preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his wife, Cathy Hampton; one daughter: Mary Huckaby; one son: Steve Hampton; one brother: Jim (Vickie) Hampton; one sister: Debby (Donald) Dishman; 2 nieces: Megan and Tara; and two nephews: Ryan and Donald.
