Wallace “Wally” Ralph Whipple passed away peacefully March 20th 2022 at Liberty Hospital. A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday April 2nd at Gashland Evangelical Presbyterian Church. Friends may call from 1 to 3 pm.

Wally was born January 29, 1935 to Goldie Marie (Diven) and Ralph Edward Whipple in Hannibal, MO. Wally married Eidola Ann Parsons on August 11, 1956. They originally met on a blind date. They had two children Joanna Lynn and David Eric.

As a child he moved from Hannibal MO to Hull, IL and Indianola IA. He graduated from Franklin High School and attended Coe College in Cedar Rapids, IA.

He was drafted into the US army and was stationed at Fort Carson, CO before receiving an honorable discharge.

Following in his father’s footsteps he became a Mason. 

Wally began his career in Marion IA working for the Linn County Co-op. He then joined Farmland Industries as a Petroleum Fieldman and moved his family to Shenandoah, IA. Farmland transferred Wally to their headquarters in Kansas City, MO where he worked in Petroleum Sales. After leaving Farmland he worked for Townsend Communications in real estate advertising and wrote “Wally’s Words” published in the Dispatch Tribune.

He was preceded in death by his parents Ralph and Goldie Whipple, his sister Doris “Ruthie” Whipple, his wife, Eidola “Dodie” Whipple and son David Eric Whipple. 

Survivors include his daughter, Joanna Dale (Greg) and daughter in law Mary Ludwig Whipple, Grandchildren; Stephanie Streck (Britton), Katrinka Bruner, Megan Ludwig, Mitchell Ludwig (Brittany), Rebecca Persinger (Ryan), David Ludwig Whipple, Veronica Ludwig Whipple and eleven great grandchildren.

In lieu of contributions please join in “Grandpa’s” favorite activity. Take your family out to dinner, share some stories, laugh, and create new memories.
